Literature Text

Kella woke up. It was still dark outside her window and for a moment she forgot where she was. Then all the memories came rushing back to her. The thought of her father possibly being unsafe, the boy from her childhood and everything else that happened the day before.

Kella packed up her things and left the room close to spotless. She got Midnight ready and rode of into the distance, trying to make up time from her nap the previous day.

By the time the sun came up Kella was ages away. Thoughts still swirling in her head she stopped to have breakfast. While Kella was eating she saw a long stick on the ground. She hadn’t practiced in a while and she feared she might be getting rusty. She walked over to the stick and picked it up.

Kella practiced for nearly an hour, trying tricks, fancy styles and attacking a tree. By the time she got tired the tree had marks and scratches all over it. Kella sat to rest for a little while. She decided to get up and leave before she wasted more time. Kella had all of her things packed away in her bag when she heard voices. She tried to ignore them encase they were just in her head. She attached her bag to Midnight’s saddle and pulled herself up onto it. The voices didn’t go away. They were yelling, screaming almost. Like warriors when the attack. Then Kella realised. The voices couldn’t be in her head, they kept getting closer.

An arrow flew past and only just missed Kella’s head. Midnight began to canter from shock. More arrows came flying past them, almost hitting Kella. Someone didn’t want her there. The horse continued to run and eventually the arrows stopped coming.

It was about noon when Kella reached another town. She didn’t want to stay long encase this town didn’t much like people passing through. She stopped in a small park and ate lunch. There were lots of children in this town. Lots of which were in the park. Kella watched them play from the branches of a tree where she chose to eat. The children ran around playing tag until they spotted Midnight. It was like they’d never seen a horse before. Kella jumped down from the branch.

Kella spent almost an hour giving the children rides on Midnight, just small ones around the park. The children were sad to see them leave but they were helpful. One of the children gave Kella directions to get to her village in the least amount of time. So she set off on what was now only a two day journey.
